XP Context Menu Items: Cmd Prompt + Find Target

I found this little gem over at gseller's blog and it's pretty useful. It allows you to simply right click in any explorer window and open a command prompt there.

  • Open up windows explorer
  • Tools -> Folder Options.
  • File Types Tab
  • Select the Folder file type
  • Click Advanced
  • Click New
  • For the "Action" type what ever you want the context menu to display, I used "Command Prompt."
  • For the "Application used to perform the action" use "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" (note on win2k you will want to specify the winnt directory instead of the windows directory)
As for Find Target, you can get a .dll file for that here.
( Mirror if you don't want to sign up for their site)
This adds "Find Target" just below "open" in the context menu whenever you click on a shortcut in windows XP.
It's one of the staples that I always get whenever I reinstall windows.

Here's a very simple way to install it.
  1. Download the file and unzip it to your C drive.
  2. Go to Start->Run , and type: regsvr32 C:\FT.dll
  3. Done! Rick click on a shortcut, and try it out!
